510. To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the progress to date in determination of an appeal for a carer's allowance in the case of a person (details supplied); if all requested documentation has been received; when an appeal is likely to conclude; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The Social Welfare Appeals Office has advised me that an appeal by the person concerned was referred to an Appeals Officer on 17 July 2020. The Appeals Officer requested further information from the person concerned on 24 July 2020, and this was received in the Social Welfare Appeals Office on 17 August 2020. It is envisaged that the Appeals Officer's decision will issue in the near future.

The Social Welfare Appeals Office functions independently of the Minister for Social Protection and of the Department and is responsible for determining appeals against decisions in relation to social welfare entitlements.

I trust this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.
