158. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if applicants that wish to renew their driver licence will be allowed to do so online to avoid citizens living abroad having to return here in view of the public health advice to avoid all unnecessary travel; and if he will make a statement on the matter. A person must be resident in the State to apply for/renew an Irish driving licence. An Irish driving licence can be renewed up to 10 years after the expiry of the licence. Therefore, a person living abroad will be able to renew their licence if they return to live in Ireland within that period.
