To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality the estimated extra cost in 2021 of increasing the number of sworn gardaí to 15,000 by the end of 2021; the estimated cost in 2022 to increase the number to 15,585; the estimated cost in 2023 to increase the number of sworn gardaí to 16,200; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Garda Commissioner is the accounting officer of An Garda Síochána and is statutorily responsible for carrying on and managing and controlling generally the administration and business of An Garda Síochána including in relation to human resource matters.
