234. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality if his Department has been in negotiations with a private company regarding the supply of direct provision or emergency accommodation in Castleblayney, County Monaghan; if so, if consultation will take place with the local community and representatives of asylum seekers with respect to the suitability of a proposed centre prior to the finalisation of an agreement; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I can inform the Deputy that my Department currently has no plans to increase the capacity of emergency accommodation for international protection applicants in County Monaghan.
I can also advise that a regional tender process for Direct Provision accommodation for the Border Region is ongoing and is currently in the assessment phase. As the Deputy will appreciate, it would not be appropriate for me to make any further comment while this procurement process is ongoing.
