The person concerned is currently in receipt of state pension contributory at a reduced rate.  I am advised that date my Department does not appear to have received an application for widow's/widower's & surviving civil partner's contributory pension from the person concerned.  Accordingly we have issued an application form to the person concerned, which should be completed and returned as soon as possible so that their entitlement can be determined.  There is a maximum backdating period of six months.

Widow's/widower's & surviving civil partner's contributory pension is based on social insurance contributions.  It is not means tested and is therefore not affected by any occupational pension(s) that the person may be in receipt of.

We hope this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.
