1322. To ask the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht the number of employees working in Waterways Ireland; the number working on or responsible for the Shannon navigation; the way in which this compares with the number of persons employed by Waterways Ireland on the Shannon navigation in 2000; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The number of employees working in Waterways Ireland is currently 303 of which 65 are employed in the Western Region covering the Shannon Navigation.

Waterways Ireland was established under statute in 1999 and an organisational structure was prepared and agreed in July 2000.

In subsequent years that structure was established and implemented as resources allowed.

In that context it is not possible to compare the current compliment of staff in the Western Region to the complement of staff in 2000.
