898. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine if his attention has been drawn to the potential closure of the Longford greyhound race track by the Irish Greyhound Board, if his attention has been further drawn to the importance of the facility to race goers and dog trainers in the north-west region; the efforts his Department can take to help ensure the track remains open; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Bord na gCon is a commercial state body, established under the Greyhound Industry Act, 1958 chiefly to control greyhound racing and to improve and develop the greyhound industry. Bord na gCon is a body corporate and a separate legal entity to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.

The question raised by the Deputy is an operational matter for Bord na gCon and therefore the question has been referred to the body for direct reply.
