1112. To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the number of persons in receipt of the State pension, contributory; the amount received; the number of persons in receipt of the State pension, non-contributory; the amount received in each of the years 2010 to 2019; the projections for the growth in the number of pensioners and the amount likely to be issued in pensions in the next number of years in tabular form; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The expenditure and recipient numbers for the State Pension Contributory (SPC) and State Pension non-Contributory (SPNC) are detailed in Table 1. Expenditure for 2019 is provisional and is subject to audit.

The projected number of pensioners and the associated expenditure for these pensioners is contingent on policy decisions regarding qualification criteria. A number of potential scenarios were examined in Appendix 7 of the Actuarial Review of the Social Insurance Fund (2015). The Actuarial Review can be downloaded at

Table 2 and Table 3 outline the projected population growth for selected years, and people at or above State Pension Age (SPA) as a proportion of the total projected population.
