948. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine his views on whether it is appropriate to introduce changes in the fallen animal scheme at the time of the year when the service is at peak demand; his further views on whether it is acceptable that knackeries across the country only received notice of the new scheme after it came into operation; if he will meet directly with an association (details supplied) to resolve its concerns about the imposed scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Following a meeting between the Department and the Animal Collectors Association earlier this week, there has been a restoration of the fallen animal collection service.

The Department is confident that the supports contained in the new Fallen Animal Scheme will support the sustainability and viability of the Knackery industry and ensure a continued fallen animal collection service to the farming community.
