544. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the reason a sports capital grant application by a club (details supplied) was unsuccessful in the most recent round of the programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [51702/19]
I propose to take Questions Nos. 543 and 544 together.
The most recent (2018) round of the Sports Capital Programme attracted a record 2,337 applications. Allocations were announced in January, May and November of this year with a total of over €56 million awarded to 1,648 different projects. All applicants, including those referred to by the Deputy have now been notified of the outcome of the assessment process including the reasons applications were deemed invalid.
Applications were deemed invalid primarily for one or more of the following reasons:
- Title/Access requirements of the Sports Capital Programme not satisfied
- Evidence of own funding not provided in prescribed format
- Insufficient own funding
All unsuccessful applicants have been given the opportunity to appeal the Department’s decision. The deadline for receipt of appeals is Friday 20thDecember.
Following the conclusion of the appeals process, a full review of the 2018 Sports Capital Programme will be undertaken with recommendations on any further improvements for the next round. It is expected that a new round of the programme will open for applications early in 2020.
