540. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he will revise the local area hackney scheme by changing the area within which a driver may pick up passengers from the existing 5 km to 7 km to an increased area of 16 km to 20 km from their home addresses for towns and villages in which the population does not exceed 1,500; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The regulation of the small public service vehicle (SPSV) sector, including the conditions that apply to local area hackney licences, is a matter for the National Transport Authority (NTA) under the provisions of the Taxi Regulation Act 2013.

Given the role of the NTA as regulator, I have forwarded your correspondence to the Authority for consideration and direct reply. Please advise this office if you do not receive a response within 10 working days.
