The Patents Office is the statutory body that deals with the registration of trade marks. The application process is straight forward and involves making an application to the Office, providing details of the applicant, an address for service, the trade mark for which registration is sought, the goods or services for which the trade mark will be used, and paying the statutory fees. Applications can be made online and the Patents Office e-filing system provides ample information to guide applicants through the application process. Once the application has been made, it will be examined by the Office and the applicant will be notified in due course as to the acceptance or otherwise of their application. There are different types of marks and the fees payable are dependent on the range of goods and services which the applicant seeks registration for.
