618. To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection if her attention has been drawn to a case (details supplied) which may have wider consequences for the Irish pension landscape, in particular defined benefit pensions; the position of her Department on this legal opinion; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I am advised that officials of my Department have engaged with the Pensions Authority, other relevant Departments, Agencies, and Member States, on the Advisory Opinion as well as in relation to relevant comments and observations already made in respect of the case referred to by the Deputy.

The Department is continuing to actively monitor the case pending any prospective judgement of the Court.

I hope this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.
