Project Ireland 2040 sets out the Government’s commitment to create the Climate Action Fund with an allocation of €500 million for the period 2018 to 2027. Seven projects were successful under the First Call for Applications from the fund. Funding was allocated following a competitive process with public and private sector organisations eligible to apply. The seven projects will, in total, receive support of up to €77 million. Of this €33.5 million (circa 44% of the total) has been allocated to commercial State Bodies, €42 million (circa 55% of the total) to the Local Authority sector and €1.4m (circa 2% of the total) to non-Government organisations. The Climate Action Plan, which was published in June, provides that a second call for applications under the Climate Action Fund will take place by the end of this year.
