314. The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) is the statutory body responsible for the enforcement of competition and consumer law in the State. Section 9(5) of the Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2014 provides that the CCPC is independent in the performance of its functions. As these functions include the day-to-day operational work arising from contacts by consumers to the Commission, I, as Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, have no direct function in such matters.
Notwithstanding this, the CCPC have informed me that the number of consumer and competition-related contacts regarding ticketing logged on its consumer contact line in 2018 and up to end-June 2019 is as follows.
Year | No. of contacts |
---|---|
2018 | 350 |
To end-June 2019 | 182 |
As these figures cover all contacts to the Commission regarding ticketing, it is not possible to identify how many relate specifically to ticket resale and touting.
