429. To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the number of persons paying PRSI and eligible for benefits under the treatment benefit scheme; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [28652/19]

Figures for 2017 show that approximately 2,176,000 employees are entitled, subject to normal qualifying conditions, for the treatment benefit scheme. In March 2017 entitlement was also extended to approximately 450,000 self-employed contributors and their dependent partners.
It should be noted that not all employees who pay PRSI contributions are eligible for treatment benefit. Modified rate contributors (pre-1995 civil and public servants) do not have entitlement to treatment benefit and class J contributors are insured for occupational injuries benefits only.
I hope this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.
