To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the reason drivers who hold a manual driving licence in the B category and an automatic licence in a bus or truck category cannot have their licence upgraded to allow them to drive manual buses and trucks, as is the case in other European countries such as the UK; if such a move is being considered; and if he will make a statement on the matter. This is a matter for the Road Safety Authority. I have referred the question to the Authority for direct reply. I would ask the Deputy to contact my office if a response is not received within 10 days.
