In 2017 the Office of Public Works (OPW) carried out extensive flood defence refurbishment works in the townlands of Gurrane and Callinafercy, Co. Kerry. Roads adjoining the sites experienced accelerated deterioration as a result importing quantities of subsoil material in rigid trucks.

Following discussion with Kerry County Council engineers, the OPW agreed to pay €12,500 towards for the temporary upkeep of the affected roads during this work. OPW has also agreed to contribute to the costs of permanent restoration works for these roads once the works are completed.
