1370. To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government his views on whether local authority archives services should be exempt from paying local authority commercial rates; if provision will be made for same as part of the Local Government (Rates) Bill 2018; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Local Government (Rates) Bill 2018 is currently before the Oireachtas and has completed Second Stage in the Dáil. The Bill contains important proposals for the modernisation of the legislation and regime governing commercial rates. The Bill is a key priority of my Department and when enacted, will facilitate more effective and streamlined rates collection procedures.

Separately the Department is undertaking a review of the Valuation Act 2001, specifically evaluating Schedules 3 and 4, governing rates exemptions and inclusions. Local authorities are represented on this Review Group.
