138. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills if a new set of regulations and standards is being drawn up for temporary prefabs being purchased or leased for school purposes; if the new standards or regulations will apply to the prefabricated buildings already produced and in the system; the way in which the regulations and standards are to be applied; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department has prepared a new Technical Guidance Document for Temporary and Prefabricated Accommodation. It will apply to future projects and not retrospectively and the implementation of this new guidance is currently under consideration.

It should be noted that notwithstanding any technical guidance from my Department, all temporary prefabricated accommodation being purchased or leased must comply with the building regulations in force at the time of installation on site. My Department’s Technical Guidance Document will be emphasising this already legally applicable requirement.
