50. To ask the Taoiseach and Minister for Defence if his attention has been drawn to comments by the chief medical officer of the Defence Forces (details supplied); and if soldiers have been disciplined for falsely claiming to be sick from taking Lariam in view of those comments. [11543/19]

51. To ask the Taoiseach and Minister for Defence if his attention has been drawn to comments by the chief medical officer of the Defence Forces (details supplied); and if a complaint has been made to An Garda Síochána regarding outside groups encouraging soldiers to make fraudulent claims to be suffering side effects from Lariam in view of those comments. I propose to take Questions Nos. 50 and 51 together.

It would be inappropriate to comment on individual medical matters. There is litigation pending before the Courts which is being managed by the State Claims Agency on behalf of the Minister for Defence, taken by current and former members of the Defence Forces in relation to allegations of personal injury due to their consumption of Lariam. It would therefore be inappropriate to comment further.
