CLÁR is a programme that provides funding for small scale projects in rural areas that have experienced significant levels of depopulation.  The programme is part of the Government’s Project Ireland 2040 Rural Regeneration Programme.

Following a number of years when the programme was closed for new applications, I reintroduced it in 2016.  Since then, CLÁR has supported over 1,200 projects across a range of measures.  Local Authorities were eligible to make applications for funding for safety measures around schools and community facilities, and for the provision of play areas.

The following table details the amounts allocated to each Local Authority under the CLÁR programme from 2016 to 2018 inclusive, and the amounts paid to each Authority in the relevant calendar year.  Payments made in 2018 may, in some cases, relate to draw-downs in respect of the previous year's allocation.

I announced the 2019 CLÁR programme on 28 February last and further details of this year's scheme can be found on my Department's website, www.drcd.gov.ie.  The closing date for this year's applications is 25th April 2019.
