To ask the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment the scholarship schemes operated by his Department; the criteria for award; the amount of the award; the number of awardees for the dates for which figures are available; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The scholarship schemes operated by my Department are set out in the following table:

Petroleum Scholarship Scheme. The scheme’s objective is to ensure a potential pool of qualified graduates with specialist qualifications of direct applicability to the offshore oil and gas sector in Ireland. | Applications under the Petroleum Scholarship Scheme are accepted from persons who have been accepted on a one year taught MSc degree course, in geoscience, petroleum engineering or environmental science topics of direct relevance to the development of Ireland’s petroleum resources In selecting the successful applicants, consideration is given to: - the direct relevance of the course to the development of Ireland’s petroleum resources; and - the applicant’s academic achievements and relevant experience. | The level of support offered per scholarship is up to a maximum of €12,000 of necessary course related costs e.g. university tuition fees, fieldwork, travel and consumables. Funding for the scheme comes from the Petroleum Infrastructure Programme - Expanded Offshore Support Group which is supported by mandatory contributions from companies holding a Frontier Exploration Licence in the Irish Offshore.
