576. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport further to the Parliamentary Question Nos. 82 and 83 of 12 February 2019, if the purpose of the review of the Carriage of Munitions of Weapons of War and Dangerous Goods Orders 73 and 89 is to deliver a more efficient and effective processing system with a view to reducing the administrative burden on his Department rather than an independent examination of the oversight functions of the order. As stated in previous replies to Parliamentary Questions, the purpose of the internal review is to examine the Statutory Instrument primarily from an administrative and legal perspective. There is no proposal to change the long-standing Government policy of permitting aircraft used by the defence forces of various nations to transit through Irish airspace and airports, subject to appropriate terms and conditions. In the event that the review identifies opportunities to reduce cost and administrative burden on the Department I believe such recommendations should be pursued.
