The school referred to by the Deputy has already received the grant funding in question. The relevant start-up grant is provided at the time of the establishment of a new ASD class in a school for the purpose of setting up that class. It is a one-off grant in that context and has been provided to the school in respect of all the ASD classes sanctioned for it.

My officials have informed the school that the Department is not in a position to provide a further grant in those circumstances. The school has subsequently submitted an appeal to the Department which will be given due consideration and responded to in due course.
