85. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality his plans to review the maximum age limit of 35 years of age for normal entry into An Garda Síochána in order to maximise recruitment opportunities and diversity as suggested in the review of entry routes to An Garda Síochána advice by the Garda Inspectorate published in May 2018. As the Deputy will be aware, recruitment to An Garda Síochána is governed by the Garda Síochána (Admissions and Appointments) Regulations 2013 which provide that the age at which a person may apply to join An Garda Síochána as a full time member is not more than 35 years.

In light of the Garda Inspectorate Report referred to by the Deputy and the more recent Report of the Commission on the Future of Policing in Ireland, it is my intention to review the maximum entry age for recruitment to An Garda Síochána as part of the overall response to the recommendations made in both reports in relation to 'entry routes' to An Garda Síochána.
