216. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills the details of public bodies and entities under the aegis of his Department for which he is responsible for making all or some appointments to which are not subject to the Guidelines on Appointments to State boards in that the recruitment and selection process is undertaken by his Department and not through the Public Appointments Service; and if he will make a statement on the matter. For the Deputy's information, details of the State bodies that fall under the aegis of my Department, including reference details of the manner of the filling of the board appointments, are available on my Department's website at the following link: .

For ease of reference a copy of the board details, including the criteria for appointments to each board, is appended.

In line with the guidance developed by the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform the process for filling vacancies on the Department's aegis body State Boards, where I, as Minister, have discretion to make the appointments, is generally managed by the Public Appointments Service (PAS).  Applications are made through the dedicated website . An assessment process is undertaken by PAS leading to the creation of a list of candidates suitable for appointments to Boards.

The Deputy should note that individuals may be nominated for board appointments by various organisations arising from the terms of the relevant Statutes of the Body concerned and, accordingly, board appointments, while made by me, are not in all cases made at my discretion.
