The Government's approach to the remembrance of all of those who lost their lives during the Independence Struggle and the significant events and themes associated with this period is informed by the guidance of the Expert Advisory Group on Centenary Commemorations and the core principles set out in the Group's Second Statement, published in October 2017.

My Department has been consulting and collaborating with Tipperary County Council to support the local commemorative committees in their plans for a commemoration to mark the centenary of the Soloheadbeg Ambush, which is generally accepted as the first action in the War of Independence.  The matter of official representation at this ceremony is being considered in this context.
