461. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the number of driver licences that were required to be surrendered and those that were actually surrendered, respectively, in each of the years 2011 to 2017 and to date in 2018, in tabular form; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The requirement to surrender a driver licence is the result of two different scenarios, one is following a disqualification arising from a conviction in Court and the other is on the accumulation of 12 penalty points (7 penalty points in the case of a learner or novice driver).

The number of licences that were actually surrendered in each of the years 2011 to 2017 and to date in 2018 is a matter for the Road Safety Authority.  I have referred this part of the question to the Authority for direct reply.  I would ask the Deputy to contact my office if a response is not received within 10 days.
