289. To ask the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht if the 2017 audit of sensitive assets including firearms and ammunition report identified loss of weaponry and-or ammunition from armouries; if so, the number which were unaccounted for as identified by the report; and if she will make a statement on the matter. As the Deputy will appreciate, given the particular security considerations attached to firearms, the Department does not publish any details concerning the number of firearms held or their location.
In 2017, my Department combined an audit of sensitive assets with a review of the Department’s management procedures in respect of both firearms and ammunition. I am advised that no losses of weapons or ammunition were identified in that process.
