249. To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection further to Parliamentary Question No. 244 of 26 September 2018, if immediate steps will be taken in the case of a person (details supplied) to address the issue in view of the fact that they are surviving only on a combination of help from an organisation and child benefit; if the seriousness of this case is recognised; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The person concerned has appealed the decision against her disallowance of Supplementary Welfare Allowance and the appeal process is underway.
In the meantime, a Community Welfare Officer will assess the person’s current circumstances to determine entitlement to an Exceptional Needs Payment. As part of that process, she will be required to provide any documentation requested to support her claim.
I trust that this clarifies the matter for the Deputy
