340. To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the procedure to be followed by a person (details supplied) who has been informed that their civil marriage cannot take place on the grounds that their previous religious marriage is not recognised here; if in such circumstances the previous marriage can be disregarded; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I refer the Deputy to an earlier reply on this issue, concerning the validity of marriages conducted in other jurisdictions [14 June 2018, PQ 26165/18]. The law relating to this is set out in section 29 of the Family Law Act 1995, which comes under the responsibility of my colleague the Minister for Justice and Equality.
