198. To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection if the refusal to award an exceptional needs payment in the case of a person (details supplied) will be reviewed; if the matter will be urgently investigated with a view to addressing at early date; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The person concerned made an application for an Exceptional Needs Payment for assistance with insufficient funds and travel costs. The application was refused on the 15/5/2018 as the person’s means are in excess of the Supplementary Welfare Allowance rate.
The request for a review has been acknowledged and the process has been initiated.
I hope this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.
