I am informed by the State Claims Agency (SCA) that as of 11th June 2018, the figures below show cost recoveries and third party payments for clinical claims finalised from 2010 to 2018 year to date.

Table 1 is correct as of 11/06/2018, whereby recoveries refer to money recouped by the SCA from from the “Medical Protection Society” or the “Medical Defence Unit”.

Figures in respect of paid totals relate to the amount of money paid on a claim over its lifetime. This may include payments made in previous years. It includes damages, legal costs and other expert costs.

The year a claim is finalised refers to when a claim and all other matters associated with it have been agreed e.g. costs. There may still be some associated payments and reimbursements outstanding on finalised claims.
