204. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if funding will be provided for an organisation (details supplied) for the purposes of training volunteers in view of the fact that the Department of Health is preparing legislation to make it mandatory for all first aid provided here to be done under PHECC; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Mountain Rescue Ireland receives funding in the region of €18k annually under the Coastal Inshore Mountain and Cave Grant scheme administered by my Department. The grant is intended to support the current expenditure of the organisation. Cost of training for volunteers can be offset using this grant. I have asked my officials to consider implications of the proposed legislation from the Department of Health once it is available.
