251. To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the basis on which a decision has been made to refuse disability allowance in the case of a person (details supplied); if the matter can be investigated with a view to awarding payment; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Based on the evidence supplied in support of their application for disability allowance (DA), this person’s application was disallowed on the grounds that the medical qualifying condition was not satisfied.
The person in question has lodged an appeal with the independent Social Welfare Appeals Office (SWAO). All the relevant papers requested by that Office recently were submitted by my department and the SWAO will be in touch with the person in due course in relation to the progress of the appeal.
I trust this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.
