330. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills if in order to qualify for future capital funding for a school, such as summer works or capital works, that the school must have provision for special education needs including autism; and if so, the way in which he plans to reconcile the existing infrastructure and staffing deficit within schools to meet this requirement. I wish to advise the Deputy that it is not mandatory that schools make provision for special needs including autism, in order to qualify for capital funding, including Summer Works Scheme funding. The provision of special education facilities is dependent on the demand and existing provision in an area.

Where additional accommodation is required, it is open to all schools to submit an application to the Department for consideration. Application forms are available on my Departments website at www.education.ie.
