Under the Arts and Culture Capital Scheme 2016-2018, a total €10.2m was allocated to 134 arts and culture organisations across the State.  Organisations undertaking capital projects usually require a number of years to draw down capital following the year of allocation, and while €0.5m of this has been paid out to date, it expected that all grants will be paid out this year and the following 2 years.

The Taoiseach and I recently launched my Department's capital plan 'Investing in our Culture, Language & Heritage 2018 - 2027' as part of Project Ireland 2040. This plan provides for total investment of over €1.1billion over the period 2018 to 2027 in our culture, heritage, language and our islands.

Under the National Cultural Institutions Investment Programme of €460 million as part of Project Ireland 2040, a total of €40 million programme will be invested in cultural infrastructure across all regions. This will support the maintenance and development of regional arts centres, theatres, regional museums, galleries, archives, multi-use facilities, artist studios etc.  This will facilitate the reopening of the Arts and Culture Capital Scheme later this year, and in general to maintain expenditure on these facilities at an average of €4m per annum over the coming decade.
