In January this year, I tasked the Road Safety Authority with carrying out a study of best international practice in relation to the minimum passing distance when overtaking cyclists. The Road Safety Authority produced a report at the end of February, this report - a pre-legislative scrutiny examining the international research evidence in relation to minimum passing distances for cyclists - is available on my Department's website www.dttas.ie(see Publications under the Roads section).
