It is important to ensure that both the current use of mesh implants in uro-gynaecological procedures in Ireland, and the ongoing clinical management of women who have had these procedures in the past are in line with international best practice and emerging evidence. To ensure this, I have requested the Chief Medical Officer to prepare a report on the many clinical and technical issues involved. I am informed that this work is advancing and involves ongoing engagement with national and international bodies, the professional colleges and others. It is also my intention that I and my officials meet with some of the women affected, so that their concerns and experiences will inform the report, which is expected to be completed within the coming months. I would ask the Deputy to await the outcome of that work.
