In the current year, €1m has been earmarked specifically by me for the Historic Towns Initiative, which will complement any capital component of supports for the Historic Towns Network. The Initiative, managed by the Heritage Council, will provide capital funding in the region of €150,000-€200,000 each to a number of towns in 2018.
I understand that the Historic Towns Steering Group will assess the applications and plans and make recommendations for funding to the Council by the end of February 2018. In conjunction with the Heritage Council I will then be making a public announcement of the outcome of this year's round of funding and all applicants will be notified by letter in March of the outcome.
