To ask the Minister for Finance the amount collected in vehicle registration tax, value added tax and customs duty for vehicles imported from outside the European Union in 2015, 2016 and 2017, by year and vehicle category, in tabular form; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I am informed by Revenue that the Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT) in respect of used vehicles imported from outside the EU in 2015, 2016 and 2017 is shown in the table. A breakdown for new vehicles is not available. Customs receipts in respect of all motor vehicles are also shown in the table below. A breakdown of Customs receipts by vehicle category is not available.

It is not possible to provide an estimate of the VAT yield on vehicles imported from outside the EU, as the information furnished on VAT returns does not require the source of the goods to be separately identified.
