I have been advised by SUSI, that the person referred to in the details supplied, has not made a student grant application to SUSI under the 2017 Student Grant Scheme.

The online application system for the 2017/18 academic year has now closed and it is anticipated that the SUSI’s online system will re-open for the 2018 Scheme in early April 2018. Students attending college in the academic year 2018/19 are required to submit their grant application to Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI) via www.susi.ieto have their eligibility for grant assistance assessed.

Other forms of support for students in third-level institutions experiencing exceptional financial difficulty is the Student Assistance Fund. This Fund assists students, in a sensitive and compassionate manner, who might otherwise be unable to continue their third level studies due to their financial circumstances. Information on the fund is available through the Access Officer in the third level institution attended. This fund is administered on a confidential, discretionary basis.

Also tax relief at the standard rate of tax may be claimed in respect of tuition fees paid for approved courses at approved colleges of higher education. Further information on this tax relief is available from the Revenue Commissioners at www.revenue.ie.
