270. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he is satisfied that the Coast Guard is not defined as a principal response agency in view of it being the body with the apparent responsibility and developed expertise in search and rescue operations in Irish waters. [5034/18]

The Irish Coast Guard is designated as a Principal Emergency Service within the Framework for Emergency Management, rather than a Principal Response Agency. This designation has not prevented or impeded the IRCG from carrying out an effective response to search and rescue situations or the discharge of its functions generally.
