The target was to move 50,000 people, who were long-term unemployed at the beginning of 2016, into employment by the end of 2020.

The number of people who were long-term unemployed at the beginning of 2016 was approximately 144,000. By the end of September 2017, almost 42,000 of these people had moved into employment. The rate of exit to employment is therefore running some way ahead of the target level.
