In response to the recommendations made in the Indecon and Morris Reports and also in the report of the Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine, I have introduced a draft General Scheme of the Greyhound Industry Bill. The Bill addresses the recommendation referred to by the Deputy as part of the measures being introduced to strengthen regulatory controls and improve integrity in the industry. The Bill also modernises sanctions and addresses governance in Bord na gCon.

The draft General Scheme of the Bill has progressed through the pre-legislative scrutiny phase and a memorandum will go to Government in early 2018 requesting approval to publish the updated General Scheme and to submit it to the Office of Parliamentary Counsel for drafting.
