223. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the extent to which the international conference sector continues to be facilitated here by way of major, modern hotel accommodation; the extent to which the market is growing and has potential for the future; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department's role in relation to tourism lies in the area of national tourism policy. The development and promotion of individual tourism sectors such as international conference tourism is a matter for the Boards and Management of Fáilte Ireland and Tourism Ireland. Fáilte Ireland is responsible for the development of the business tourism sector, whereas Tourism Ireland is responsible for overseas marketing of Ireland as a destination for business tourism.
Accordingly, I have referred the Deputy's question to both tourism agencies for direct reply. Please contact my private office if you do not receive a response within ten working days.
