41. To ask the Minister for Finance his views on the proposal to enshrine the fiscal compact, now an inter government treaty, into the EU Treaty; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [42969/17]

Following a referendum on the 31 May 2012, Ireland deposited its instruments of ratification of the Treaty on Stability, Coordination and Governance in Economic and Monetary Union done at Brussels, 2 March 2012, with the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union on 14 December 2012.

At present, the European Commission has not brought forward any legislative proposal to enshrine the fiscal compact into an EU Treaty.
