233. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine further to the recent announcement by European Commissioner for Agriculture that countries worst affected by Brexit-related currency changes are invited to apply for EU state aid to help the agricultural sector, if Ireland has formally submitted an application to the European Commission in this regard; and if not, the reason therefor. I am in regular contact with Commissioner Hogan and my European counterparts in relation to the threat posed by Brexit, and the currency related difficulties that have been and are continuing to be experienced. I will have an opportunity to voice this once again at the Agriculture Council next month and I intend to avail of the that opportunity. I know that the Commissioner is acutely aware of these issues himself but I think it important to raise them in the wider forum of the Council.
