Under the Protected Disclosures Act 2014 (Section 7 (2)) Order 2014 (SI 339 of 2014) HIQA is mandated to receive protected disclosures on all matters relating to the standards of safety and care of persons receiving health and social care services in the public and voluntary health care sectors and social care services in the case of the private health care sector, as provided for by the (No. 23 of 2007). Therefore, under the Protected Disclosures Act 2014 workers or ex-workers can make a disclosure that came to the attention of the worker in connection with the worker's employment.
